A showcase for imaginative uses of WordPress
WordPress is great. Period. And people are finding more and more ways of using it to create some fantastic websites even the creators couldn’t have ever thought of. It will always primarily be blogging software but that hasn’t stopped its increasing use as a CMS and now beyond.
My name is Matt and I work in online marketing and as part of my job I am exposed to WordPress built sites on a daily basis, some great some not. This website has been created to showcase the best examples of people using WordPress in new and imaginative ways. This isn’t a showcase to show off pretty themes or plug-ins, instead it is to show off sites that have taken WordPress and used it as the framework to create something special in some way. This might mean they have added a unique ecommerce feature with a slight twist all the way up to a new way to navigate websites and anything inbetween. The size of the site or the change doesn’t matter, it is more the novelty factor I am looking for.
How the site was built
I’m not a web designer, far from it, but I do enjoy the freedom and power WordPress gives someone with no design skills (such as myself). One of the best themes I have come across, free or paid, is this “Gallery theme” given away free by smashingmagazine.com and when the idea for this website came to me I finally had an excuse to use it. All the relevant links to the people who created this theme can be found in the footer and I have created a list of all the plug-ins used on this site here; www.wpview.com/plug-ins.
